چکیده

Infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) was used to investigate carbon monoxide (CO) adsorption on sub-monolayer (ML)-thick Fe deposited Pt(111). The CO exposure to a clean Pt(111) surface at room temperature yielded linear-bonded and bridgebonded CO-Pt bands at 2090 and 1850 cm. The CO-Pt band intensities decreased steeply with increasing Fe thickness. For a 1-ML-thick-Fe/Pt surface, the bridge-bonded CO-Fe band at 1950 cm dominated the spectra. Furthermore, the Fe depositions showed a new absorption band at around 2060 cm. The IRRAS spectrum for CO adsorption on the 3-Å-thick-Ptcovered a 1-ML-Fe/Pt(111) surface showed a single absorption at 2070 cm. Based on the IRRAS results, we discuss CO adsorption behavior on sub-ML-thick Fe/Pt(111) surfaces.

CO adsorption on Pd( 111): the effects of temperature and pressure

Infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) has been used to study the adsorption of carbon monoxide on a Pd(ll1) surface. IRAS spectra were collected at temperatures from 100 to 1000 K and at pressures from 1.0 x lo-’ to 10.0 Torr. The IRAS data at temperatures > 250 K showed the coverage versus temperature behavior anticipated from the data acquired under UHV conditions. However, at te...

Methanol Adsorption and Reaction on Samaria Thin Films on Pt(111)

We investigated the adsorption and reaction of methanol on continuous and discontinuous films of samarium oxide (SmOx) grown on Pt(111) in ultrahigh vacuum. The methanol decomposition was studied by temperature programmed desorption (TPD) and infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS), while structural changes of the oxide surface were monitored by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED...

The adsorption and oxidation of carbon monoxide at the Pt(111)/electrolyte interface: atomic structure and surface relaxation

Using in-situ X-ray diffraction we have studied the adsorption of CO onto Pt(111) in pure perchloric acid. The adsorption of CO at an applied electrode potential of 0.05 V (versus the reversible hydrogen electrode) causes expansion of the topmost Pt atomic layer by ~4% of the bulk lattice spacing. At this potential the adsorbed CO forms a compressed p(2×2) adlayer which fully covers the Pt surf...

Adsorption energetics of CO on supported Pd nanoparticles as a function of particle size by single crystal microcalorimetry.

The heat of adsorption and sticking probability of CO on well-defined Pd nanoparticles were measured as a function of particle size using single crystal adsorption microcalorimetry. Pd particles of different average sizes ranging from 120 to 4900 atoms per particle (or from 1.8 to 8 nm) and Pd(111) were used that were supported on a model in situ grown Fe(3)O(4)/Pt(111) oxide film. To precisely...

Photoinduced surface dynamics of CO adsorbed on a platinum electrode.

The surface dynamics of adsorbed CO molecules formed by dissociative adsorption of HCHO at a polycrystalline Pt electrode/electrolyte solution interface was studied by picosecond time-resolved sum-frequency generation (TR-SFG) spectroscopy. A SFG peak at 2050-2060 cm(-1) was observed at the Pt electrode in HClO(4) solution containing HCHO at 0-300 mV (vs Ag/AgCl), indicating the formation of ad...
